DIY Smoky Balsamic Tomato Jam in Glass Straight Sided Jars

DIY Smoky Balsamic Tomato Jam in Glass Straight Sided Jars

Ripe end-of-summer tomatoes get a savory, smoky twist in this slow-simmered jam, balanced with balsamic vinegar and smoked paprika. This tomato jam recipe is spooned into one of SKS Bottle & Packaging's glass straight sided jars, just as at home on a cheese board as stirred into a burger.

Smoky Balsamic Tomato Jam Glass Jar
Ingredients:
  • 2 lbs ripe Roma or plum tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp coarsely ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 9 oz Clear Glass Jar w/ Gold Metal Lug Cap

Instructions:
  • Peel the Tomatoes: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Drop tomatoes in for 30 seconds, then transfer to an ice bath. The skins will slip right off.
  • Combine Everything: Add the peeled, chopped tomatoes, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, smoked paprika, thyme, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to a medium saucepan.
  • Bring to a Boil: Heat over medium-high until it reaches a full boil.
  • Simmer Low and Slow: Reduce heat to a gentle simmer. Cook 1 to 1.5 hours, stirring often so it doesn't scorch on the bottom, until thick and glossy.
  • Cool and Jar: Remove from heat and let cool slightly before spooning into your SKS glass jar.

A Quick Note: This is a small-batch refrigerator jam, not a shelf-stable canned product. Refrigerate and use within about 3 weeks.
