Choosing the right lip balm recipe can make all the difference. Typical recipes call for common ingredients, like: bees-wax beads, cocoa or shea butter, almond (borage or sunflower can be substituted) oil, Vitamin E for extra moisturizing, and your preferred flavorings and colorings. We recommend experimenting to find the right recipe for your needs. Below you'll find the recipe used for the demonstration in this video.

SKS offers a wide variety of plastic lip balm tubes that could be the perfect addition to your lip balm product line.

Instructions:
  • Weigh out the ingredients, excluding the essential oils, and add to a heat safe glass container.
  • Fill a sauce pan with some water, and place the container into the water heating until everything is melted.
  • While waiting for the ingredients to melt, fill the lip balm filling tray with the empty tubes.
  • Once everything is melted, stir well, and remove the mixture from the stove. Let the mixture sit until it cools to 140°.
  • While waiting for the lip balm to cool down, add in your essential oils. Some sources propose a recommended range of 0.5% to 1% (maximum) essential oil to ingredients.
  • Once the temperature is 140°, start pouring the mixture into the lip balm tubes. Work quickly, the mixture will begin to harden as you pour.
  • Let the lip balm cool and harden for at least 2 hours.
  • Use the scraper supplied with the filing tray to scrape excess lip balm off the tray.
  • Remove the tubes and apply the caps.
